A devastating fire in a camp for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the Marib Al-Wadi district, east of Marib Governorate, has claimed the life of a young girl, a local source reported on Sunday.

The source, speaking to "Baran Press," identified the victim as the daughter of Yahya Hassan Tarad al-Sayfi al-Muradi. The fire completely engulfed their shelter in "Al-Ramasa" IDP camp, located within Al-Ramasa area of Marib Al-Wadi.

The blaze not only destroyed the family's makeshift home – comprised of a tent, a vehicle, and a storage container – but also consumed all of their possessions.

This comes on the heels of another fire on April 25, 2025, in the nearby "Al-Fadhi" camp, also in the Al-Wadi district, where the Executive Unit for the Management of IDP Camps in Marib Governorate reported four children suffered severe burns.

Data from the Executive Unit paints a concerning picture of fire safety in these camps. Between January and April 25, 2025, a total of 42 fires were recorded in Marib's IDP camps, resulting in 11 injuries, most of them children.

A grim report from the Executive Unit for the year 2024 documented a staggering 208 fires in Marib's IDP camps, leading to four deaths and 40 injuries, predominantly among vulnerable populations including women, children, and the elderly.
