The Yemeni National Bloc is demanding a 100% minimum increase in salaries and consistent payments for all employees and displaced persons. In a strong statement from Aden on Thursday, the Supreme Council of Political Parties and Components urged the Presidential Leadership Council to take "historical responsibility" for the country's economic crisis.
Economic Emergency
The bloc called for immediate and sweeping economic reforms, including a transparent national budget, proper financial oversight, and the restoration of anti-corruption bodies. They stressed the urgent need to unify military and security institutions under state authority and expand national partnerships to tackle the ongoing crises.
The National Bloc warned of an "accelerating collapse" of the economy and national currency, directly attributing it to the Houthi coup and the lack of sound governance. They highlighted the Houthis' targeting of oil export ports, the breakdown of the financial system, and the diversion of resources as key factors in the economic downturn and loss of confidence in monetary authorities.
To stabilize the economy, the bloc called for full control over resources, optimized use of foreign currency, and a stronger national currency. They also urged an end to expensive energy contracts, advocating instead for strategic partnerships with Saudi Arabia, Gulf nations, and other allies to invest in Yemen's essential infrastructure.
The National Bloc emphasized that overcoming these intertwined crises requires rebuilding state institutions on solid national foundations, ensuring political partnership, equal citizenship, and the rule of law.
Mosque Raid Condemned
In a separate development, the council condemned the storming of Omar bin al-Khattab Mosque in Mansoura, Aden, on Thursday. Armed individuals, reportedly affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council, raided the mosque during dawn prayers, abducting Imam Sheikh Mohammed Al-Kazmi. The bloc denounced the act as a violation of religious sanctity and an assault on state authority. Videos circulated by citizens showed armed men assaulting the Imam and forcibly removing him, causing panic among worshippers.
