The United Arab Emirates announced Monday, July 7, 2025, that its naval forces successfully rescued 22 crew members from the British-flagged vessel, "Magic Sea," after it was attacked by the Houthi group in the Red Sea on Sunday.
The Emirati Foreign Ministry confirmed that the Abu Dhabi Ports Group's vessel, immediately responded to a distress call from the "Magic Sea." The attack caused significant damage to the ship's hull, forcing the crew to abandon it.
The rescue operation successfully evacuated all 22 crew members. This was coordinated with relevant maritime authorities, including the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) and international organizations, adhering to the highest safety and emergency response standards.
The ministry emphasized that this swift action underscores the UAE's commitment to supporting maritime security and safety. It also reflects the nation's humanitarian approach and solidarity in addressing escalating threats in strategic waterways.
On Sunday, the UKMTO reported that a merchant vessel, located 51 nautical miles southwest of Hodeidah, was fired upon by multiple small boats using small arms and projectiles. Later, the UKMTO confirmed that the ship's company security officer verified water ingress and that all crew members had departed the damaged vessel. The leak was attributed to a fire ignited by unidentified projectiles, causing extensive damage.
