Ta'izz, Yemen - Human Rights sources in Taiz Governorate (southwestern Yemen) reported on Sunday, May 19, 2024, the death of an abductee in the prisons of the Houthi group, which is internationally classified as a terrorist organization, after more than 7 years of his abduction.

The sources told "Barran Press" that the abductee "Najib Hassan Ali Fare' ", a resident of the village of "Al-Badbah" in the "Al-Rabi'i" isolation of the Directorate of Al-Ta'iziyah northwest of Ta'izz, died in Houthi prisons.

They stated that Najib's family received a notification yesterday, Saturday, from the Red Cross about the death of their abducted son in the prisons of the Houthi group, which has been internationally classified as a terrorist organization, since his abduction from his home on February 22, 2017.

The International Committee of the Red Cross handed over a picture of the abductee to his family, in which "clear traces of torture appeared on the face, neck and chest," indicating that the Houthis did not hand over the body of the deceased abductee and did not mention any other details about the circumstances of his abduction and the circumstances of his death.

In late March, human rights organizations monitored the death of two abductees in Houthi prisons in Sana'a, one of whom was named "Khaled Hussein Ghazi" from Dhamar Governorate, and the other was the teacher "Sabri Al-Hakimi", who died under torture and neglect in the Security and Intelligence Prison in Sana'a, four months after his abduction.

Previous human rights reports have spoken of documenting more than 350 cases of killing under torture out of a total of 1635 cases that were subjected to torture in the prisons of the Houthi group, which has been classified as a terrorist organization since its coup against the state in 2014.
