The Yemeni Embassy in Lebanon moved swiftly on Thursday to distance itself from a Yemeni national recently detained by Lebanese authorities on suspicion of spying for Israel's Mossad intelligence agency. The embassy, representing the internationally recognized Yemeni government, unequivocally stated that the individual "holds no official status."

In a clarification obtained by "Bran Press," the embassy emphasized that the man in question "has never held any official position, nor has he ever been affiliated with the diplomatic or administrative corps of the legitimate Yemeni government." The statement further clarified that he does not hold any government post, either within or outside Yemen.

The embassy elaborated that the individual's attempts to communicate with them were "based on claims not supported by any official documents." They added that the matter was handled "according to established procedures" and that "the relevant Lebanese authorities were informed of his actions, in adherence to legal and diplomatic responsibilities."
This official statement comes amidst earlier reports from Lebanese and international media detailing the arrest of a Yemeni national in Beirut. He is alleged to have been providing information to Mossad about the activities of the Houthi group in both Yemen and Lebanon.
According to these reports, the detained individual arrived in Beirut roughly two months prior to his arrest. He reportedly attempted to gain entry to the Yemeni embassy, seeking a meeting with the ambassador and a job that would secure him permanent residency in Lebanon. However, embassy guards, part of the Diplomatic Security Service, denied him entry as his name was not pre-registered. This denial reportedly escalated into a verbal altercation, then insults and a physical scuffle, ultimately leading to his detention and the confiscation of his mobile phone.

During subsequent interrogations, the detainee reportedly confessed to communicating with Mossad. He allegedly admitted to providing the Israelis with information concerning the Houthi group in Sana'a and later claimed he was tasked with gathering intelligence on the whereabouts of Houthi leaders present in Lebanon.
