Two sisters tragically drowned during a family outing at the Marib Dam canal in Yemen's northeastern Marib governorate on Tuesday.
Ziyad Al-Ra'i, the health media official at the Marib Public Health Office, confirmed the deaths to "Barran Press." He stated that the operations room at the health office received a report from Kiry Hospital about the drowning of Sali Abdul Salam Saif Far'a (18 years old) and her sister Sahar (12 years old) in the waters of the diversion canal south of Marib city.
The sisters were transported to Kiry Hospital in Marib, but they arrived already deceased. Their bodies are currently in the hospital's morgue.
Al-Ra'i explained that the family, originally from Taiz, had been living in the Al-Jafina camp for displaced persons south of Marib. They were on a celebratory outing on Tuesday afternoon when the tragedy occurred. The mother attempted to rescue her daughters, but her efforts were unsuccessful.
This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of water safety, particularly during recreational activities near bodies of water.
