A devastating car accident in the Ain Ali area of Hajjah Governorate, Yemen, has claimed the lives of eight people and injured seven others from the same family. The incident occurred on Thursday, June 20, 2024, when a sedan careened off a rocky mountainside on the road connecting the Shers district to Hajjah city, the governorate's capital.
Local sources, to Barran Press, described the crash as "horrific," stating that the vehicle tumbled down a steep, rocky slope. Three ambulances, including one from the Red Crescent, rushed to the scene to rescue the injured. The injured were transported to the Saudi Hospital in Hajjah city, while some were transferred to Amran Governorate due to the severity of their injuries and the lack of CT scan facilities.
Sources attribute the tragedy to the car plunging from a high cliff into a rocky ravine. The impact of the fall resulted in the high number of fatalities and injuries.
Social media users shared images of the mangled vehicle, reduced to a twisted mass amidst large rocks at the bottom of the valley. The pictures show local residents gathered around the wreckage.
Northern and western Yemen frequently experience traffic accidents due to the presence of towering mountains and treacherous slopes. These incidents often result in multiple casualties, frequently from the same family.
