Local authorities in Taiz Governorate (southwest Yemen) on Monday, July 1, 2024, urged security forces to "facilitate procedures and be flexible in dealing with citizens entering through the (Al-Kamb – Al-Qasr Roundabout – Al-Hawban) road, which recently reopened."

This call came during Taiz Deputy Governor Abdulqawi al-Mikhlafi's inspection of the procedures on the Al-Kamb – Al-Qasr Roundabout road, which recently reopened after being closed by the Houthi group, a designated terrorist organization by the international community, who imposed a siege on the city of Taiz for nine years, according to the official Yemeni news agency Saba.

Al-Mikhlafi stressed, according to the agency, "providing all facilities to facilitate work and ease the movement of citizens to and from the governorate with ease and comfort."

He praised the "significant" security achievements that he said were "achieved thanks to the cooperation and coordination between various security units in the governorate, discipline in performing duties, and the implementation of security plans to maintain security and stability and enhance public tranquility for citizens in the governorate."

The Deputy Governor listened to the difficulties and challenges facing the work from the Director General of Sala District, Engineer Arif al-Yousefi, according to the agency.

On June 13, the city of Taiz witnessed the reopening of the "Al-Kamb – Al-Qasr Roundabout" road, east of the city, after nine years of closure by the Houthi group, a designated terrorist organization by the international community, marking the first break in the siege on the city.

The Houthi group announced on June 7 the opening of the "Al-Qasr Roundabout" road for the first time since closing all entrances to the city of Taiz in 2015.

Security and military authorities in Taiz accuse the Houthis of exploiting the road and the passage of over 1,500 vehicles and cars daily to the city to infiltrate their elements to create chaos and destabilize the internal front of the governorate.

According to local sources, security and military forces have been able to apprehend a large number of Houthis who infiltrated the city through the eastern entrance.
