A Houthi militant, identified as Abdullah Ismail Sanjari, has been accused of brutally murdering his ex-wife and her parents in a shocking incident in the Bajil district of Hodeidah governorate, Yemen.

According to local sources, Sanjari, who had divorced his wife just two days prior, stormed her family's home in the village of Al-Frideliyah in Bajil east of Hodeida on Monday, July 1st, 2024. He allegedly slaughtered his ex-wife with a butcher knife before fatally shooting her father, Ahmed Mohammed Yahya Dahib, and her mother.

The sources reported that the crime sparked widespread fear and condemnation within the community, with many describing it as a horrifying and unprecedented act in Yemeni society.

The incident is the latest in a disturbing trend of family murders in areas controlled by the Houthi group, which is designated as a terrorist organization by several countries. These crimes are often attributed to Houthi militants who have undergone intensive religious indoctrination in so-called "cultural courses." rights reports have documented over 300 murders and violent assaults against family members in Houthi-controlled areas over the past three years, with the majority of perpetrators being Houthi loyalists.

The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms has accused the Houthis of turning Yemen into a "hotbed of violence," with a surge in daily crimes, particularly murder and family killings, reaching unprecedented levels in the country's history.

The brutal murder in Bajil has once again raised concerns about the deteriorating security situation in Houthi-controlled areas and the growing threat of violence against civilians.
