Tribal mediation efforts have failed to stop ongoing heavy weapons clashes between two families from the Al-Awaliq tribe in the Al-Sa'id region of Shabwah Governorate, eastern Yemen, according to tribal sources.

ٍSources told Barran Press that the clashes, which began on Tuesday, July 2nd, 2024, between the families of "Al-Abu Bakr bin Farid" and "Al-Ahmed bin Farid," resumed after tribal mediators withdrew from the situation.

A military force from the Giant Forces, deployed from the governorate capital Ataq, is currently en route to Al-Sa'id under the direction of Shabwah Governor Awad bin Al-Wazir Al-Awlaki to halt the fighting.

The violent clashes, which began on Monday, July 1st, are reportedly rooted in a long-standing feud between the families.

The situation follows a separate incident on Saturday, June 29th, where clashes broke out between the Al-Difallah and Al-Ishaq tribes in the Asilan district, northwest of Shabwah. The initial conflict stemmed from the killing of a young man named "Zaid Al-Kuram Al-Difli" in the Al-Nuqub market. The clashes escalated into heavy weapons exchanges in the "Ara" area south of Asilan, resulting in the deaths of "Fahad Aziz Al-Masla' Al-Difli," "Mujahed Saleh Mubarak Shreifa Al-Difli," and injuries to "Mufrej Al-Kuram Al-Difli," "Qasim Al-Masla' Al-Difli," and "Awad Hatrouch Al-Sahaqi."

Shabwah Governorate, under the control of the Southern Transitional Council, has experienced a surge in tribal killings and clashes fueled by revenge or land disputes. The escalating violence has raised concerns about a growing security breakdown in the region.
