A teacher tragically drowned in flash floods on Saturday, July 13, 2024, while returning home from work in Al-Mahwit Governorate, northwest Yemen, on the first day of the new school year.
Local sources reported to "Barran Press" that Yahya Saleh Ahmed Al-Ahmar was swept away by floodwaters while attempting to cross the Ghazwan valley in Shebam Kawkaban district. He had been teaching at Al-Fath School in Saib district.
Residents later discovered Al-Ahmar's body, carried far downstream by the raging waters in the Ghazwan Valley. The area has been experiencing heavy rainfall in recent days.
