With President Joe Biden's announcement on Sunday, July 21, 2024, that he would not seek re-election and would instead endorse his Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee, the spotlight has shifted to the woman who aspires to be the first female president of the United States.

In the three weeks since Biden's stumbling performance in his debate against Republican challenger Donald Trump and his subsequent withdrawal, some have compared Harris to a "gorilla in the room" delaying Biden's announcement due to several "weaknesses" that prevented her from being a consensus candidate within her party.

This description reflects the challenges facing Democrats and the White House as they work to improve her standing. Harris, the first female and first African-American and Asian-American Vice President, has faced criticism for her failure to play a significant role in sensitive political issues on President Biden's agenda.

Among these issues is the southern border and the immigration crisis, a task Biden entrusted to her at the beginning of his term, where she failed to achieve notable results. Additionally, her lackluster international presence and her absence in addressing Republican efforts to restrict voting rights have further raised concerns.

With polls indicating lukewarm public acceptance and Republicans actively exploiting her perceived weakness, Harris could become a burden on Democrats' chances in the absence of a strong effort to reintroduce her public persona.

Harris's participation in the American political landscape raises numerous questions about her chances of reaching the presidency and becoming the first woman to lead the United States.

Kamala Harris is a fascinating figure. In addition to being the first black and Asian woman to hold the office of Vice President, she has a distinguished legal background, having served as a District Attorney and Attorney General, equipping her with strong negotiation and argumentation skills and experience in managing complex cases. Harris also demonstrates a strong ability to effectively communicate with the public through her charisma and charm.

Furthermore, Harris is known for her strong and decisive personality, capable of making tough decisions, demonstrating her determination to achieve her goals and succeed. She is also known for her ability to listen to others' opinions and appreciate diversity, making her open to discussions and different perspectives.

Harris is known for her attempts to bring about changes in US foreign policy, focusing on the importance of international cooperation and human rights in US dealings with other countries. She is known for her tough stance on Iran, expressing concern about its nuclear program and supporting economic pressure on the Iranian regime.

For and Against Israel

Despite her support for Israel, Harris also emphasizes the importance of a peaceful solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. She has expressed concern about the escalating violence in the region and called for efforts to reduce it. She seeks to maintain relations with countries in the Middle East, such as Gulf states, Egypt, and Jordan, focusing on cooperation in addressing security and economic challenges in the region.

The American Vice President is seen as having strong ties to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), the largest pro-Israel lobbying group in the country. During her time in the Senate, she said, "I will do everything in my power to ensure broad bipartisan support for Israel's security and its right to defend itself."

She co-sponsored a bill opposing a UN resolution condemning settlements in the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem. She believes in a two-state solution, but she also insists that full support for Israel should not be a partisan issue and calls for full US support for Israel.

During her presidential campaign, she strongly opposed condemning UN votes or even criticism aimed at influencing Israel, according to the Jerusalem Post, while opposing any International Criminal Court investigation into possible war crimes against Palestinians.

Lawyer and Politician

Kamala Devi Harris is an American lawyer and politician of African-American and Asian descent, presented as the daughter of a cancer researcher from India and a Jamaican economics professor, and the wife of a Jewish lawyer. She is described as the female version of former US President Barack Obama.

From her position as District Attorney in San Francisco and then in California, to the US Senate, Harris has won every election she has contested except for the 2019 presidential election.

In January 2021, she became the 49th Vice President of the United States and temporarily led the country for an hour and a half when Biden underwent a routine checkup.

On July 21, 2024, US President Joe Biden announced that he had decided to step down from the race for the US presidential election scheduled for November 5, and announced his support for his Vice President Kamala Harris to succeed him in the race for the White House on behalf of the Democratic Party.
