A 55-year-old man was severely wounded today after being shot by a Houthi sniper while sitting outside his home in the Sharaf neighborhood, east of Taiz city. This marks the third time Saeed Nasher Ahmed Mansour has been targeted by snipers at the same location, according to sources close to the victim.
Medical and local sources in the southwestern Yemeni province confirmed the incident. Mansour was reportedly struck by two bullets fired by a Houthi sniper positioned on Al-Salal Hill 1. The first round hit his left leg, and after he fell, another shot struck his left thigh. The repeated targeting suggests a systematic approach by the Houthi group against residents in areas near the front lines.
This attack follows a similar incident just yesterday, where 50-year-old Saeeda Mohammed Ahmed Abdullah was fatally shot by a Houthi sniper inside her home in Maqbanah Directorate, west of Taiz.
Taiz city and its surrounding areas have seen a troubling rise in sniper attacks against civilians by the Houthi group. Critics point to what they describe as international silence and inaction in addressing these ongoing violations, which continue to claim lives and instill fear among unarmed residents.
Human rights reports indicate that between 2015 and 2023, the Houthi group was responsible for the deaths of 3,021 civilians and injuries to 6,361 others, including women and children, in Taiz governorate. These casualties resulted from sniper fire, direct shelling, and the proliferation of landmines.
