The Yemeni Embassy in Addis Ababa announced on Friday, July 26, the resumption of electronic visa issuance for Yemeni travelers to Ethiopia. This follows a three-year suspension by Ethiopian authorities.

In a brief statement on its X account, seen by "Barran Press". the embassy stated, "Following persistent efforts and continuous follow-up by the embassy with our brothers in the Ethiopian state, approval has been granted to resume the issuance of visas of all types for Yemeni citizens electronically, effective July 24, 2024."

The embassy urged "those coming to Ethiopia to respect the laws of the host country and adhere to all instructions during their visit, to avoid a review of this decision and the suspension of visa issuance again."

In October 2021, the official Yemeni News Agency (Saba) reported that the chargé d'affaires of the Yemeni embassy in Addis Ababa, Yahya Al-Ariani, discussed with the head of the Ethiopian Immigration and Nationality Affairs Authority, Majib Jamil, "mechanisms to facilitate the issuance of visas for Yemenis to enter Ethiopia online or for holders of diplomatic passports."

On September 20, 2023, the chairman of the board of directors of Yemenia Airways, Captain Nasser Mahmoud Mohammed, met with Yemen's ambassador to Ethiopia, Yahya Al-Ariani. They discussed "the efforts and procedures undertaken by the Yemeni embassy and Yemenia Airways, in coordination with the Ethiopian government, to resume the issuance of electronic visas for Yemeni travelers through the Ethiopian government website, as well as seeking to grant visas to Yemenis through Ethiopian embassies worldwide," according to the Yemenia website.

Ethiopian authorities had temporarily suspended visa issuance to its territory for all nationalities due to exceptional circumstances the country has been facing since June 2021.
