A Yemeni man held captive by the Houthi group has died in their custody, according to tribal sources and family members. The deceased, identified as Obeid Nasser Musaid Al-Dhuwi, was reportedly tortured to death after three months of detention.

Activist Sultan Al-Rusa, a relative of the deceased and a member of his tribe, told Barran Press that Al-Dhuwi was abducted from a checkpoint in Al-Jawf governorate (northeastern Yemen) three months ago. The Houthis, designated as a terrorist organization by several countries, had promised his family his release on Saturday. However, after arriving at the gates of the military police prison in Sana'a where he was being held, the family was informed that he had died 10 days prior.

Al-Rusa stated that Al-Dhuwi was in good health when he was abducted and that the Houthis had kept his whereabouts secret from his family for three months. During this time, he was allegedly tortured to death in their Sana'a prisons.

"This is a crime, like every crime they commit against detainees and prisoners in their prisons, without any respect for humanity, morals, or values," Al-Rusa said, holding the Houthi group responsible for his death due to the torture and mistreatment he endured in their custody.

The deceased's body was reportedly transported to a Sana'a hospital for an autopsy, and legal action is expected to be taken against the Houthi group for his death.

Official government reports document over 350 deaths due to torture out of a total of 1635 cases of torture reported in Houthi detention facilities since their 2014 coup.
