Yemeni President Expresses Solidarity with Aid Workers, Discusses Development Projects in Hadhramaut

Al-Alimi meets with the UN delegation in Mukalla (Saba)

Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad Al-Alimi on Sunday, July 28, 2024, expressed solidarity with the humanitarian and human rights community against violations by the Houthi group, designated as a terrorist organization by several countries and supported by the Iranian regime. These violations have targeted UN staff and local and international organizations.

Al-Alimi made these remarks during a meeting at the Republican Palace in Mukhala, the capital of Hadhramaut governorate, with a delegation from the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) led by Deputy Director of the Human Capital Project, Abdulwahab Salah. The meeting was also attended by Hadhramaut Governor Mabkhout bin Maadi and an advisor to the Presidential Leadership Council.

According to the official Yemeni news agency Saba, the meeting discussed "the interventions of the UNOPS and opportunities to expand its development and service support in various fields."

The UNOPS delegation briefed Al-Alimi on the projects being implemented by the office in Hadhramaut and its plans to expand its interventions to other cities in the governorate in the fields of urban engineering and services, infrastructure, particularly in the sectors of public works, sanitation, education, and renewable energy.

During the meeting, the President of the Presidential Leadership Council expressed his "hope to double the efforts of the office by taking advantage of the powers granted to local authorities to facilitate the work of international organizations and improve the access of citizens to their services supported by the donor community."

On Saturday, July 27, 2024, Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi arrived in Mukhala, the capital of Hadhramaut governorate (eastern Yemen), accompanied by Council members Abdullah Al-Alimi and Othman Majli. This was his second visit to the governorate in a year.
