The United Nations Mission to Support the Hodeidah Agreement (UNMHA) reported on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, that it recorded six incidents related to explosive remnants of war, resulting in nine civilian casualties during the past month.

According to a statement released by the mission on its Facebook page monitored by "Barran Press", the casualties included the death of a child and a woman, as well as injuries to three other children.

The statement indicated that the affected areas included the districts of Ad Durayhimi, Al-Tuhayta, Beit al-Faqih, and Hays in the governorate located in western Yemen. The mission emphasized that these incidents highlight the devastating impact of such events on the most vulnerable members of society.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Yemeni Mine Action Center reported the death of a child while tending sheep and the injury of an African migrant in separate mine blast incidents in the governorate of Al Bayda (central Yemen), bringing the total number of mine casualties to 14 killed and injured in less than a week.

The center stated in a brief statement on X (formerly Twitter) that the child, 14-year-old Abdelhadi Mohammed, was killed by a mine planted by the Houthi group, internationally classified as a terrorist organization, in the Al-Habj area of Al-Zahar district in Al Bayda governorate.

The center mentioned that the incident occurred days after another mine explosion injured an African migrant in the Al-Qan'dh area in the same governorate, resulting in the amputation of the migrant's leg.

Last Sunday, July 28, the Yemeni Mine Action Center reported the death of a child and injuries to 11 civilians, including children and women, due to mine explosions from remnants of the Houthi group in four Yemeni governorates over the past 24 hours.

According to a statement released by the center on X, a man, his wife, and their child sustained various injuries, including the amputation of the woman's limb, in a Houthi mine explosion in the Beit Maghari area of Hays district in Hodeidah governorate (western Yemen).

In Sana'a governorate, the center confirmed the death of a child and injuries to two civilians in a mine explosion in Nihm district. In the Al-Ja'dah area of Midi, belonging to Hajjah governorate (northwest Yemen), a child and a woman were injured by a Houthi mine explosion.

The center also reported injuries to at least three travelers due to a Houthi mine explosion on the desert road in Khabb wa ash Sha'f district in Jawf governorate (northeast Yemen). The center noted that this alternative desert road is heavily contaminated, and mines planted by the Houthis on and along its sides have claimed the lives of dozens of travelers.

UN reports indicate that the Houthi group has planted approximately two million mines in various areas under its control, resulting in the deaths and injuries of over 20,000 civilians, the majority of whom are women and children.

While human rights reports accuse the Houthis of "turning Yemen into the largest minefield ever, after planting more than two million mines," human rights organizations repeatedly call on the Houthi group to hand over maps of the landmines they have planted to organizations working in the field of mine clearance.
