The Yemeni Islah Party on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, strongly condemned the "heinous assassination" of prominent Palestinian leader Ismail Haniyeh, former Prime Minister and head of Hamas' political bureau.

In a statement, monitored by "Barran Press", the Islah Party described the assassination as a "brutal crime, a cowardly act, and condemned by all measures, diplomatic norms, and international laws." They deemed it a "serious escalation and a blatant violation of international and humanitarian law, which compels the international community, represented by the United Nations, to protect [Palestine]."

The Yemeni Islah Party emphasized the need for the international community to "punish the Israeli occupation for its repeated violations of everything Palestinian, land and people."

The party called upon the Palestinian Authority, political factions, and resistance groups to unite and close ranks in the face of the Zionist killing machine, which has been shattered against the rock of Palestinian resilience since the beginning of the resistance.

The statement declared, "Despite the pain and wounds of the Palestinian people and the Arab and Islamic worlds, this crime should be a new fuel to ignite the act of resistance against the occupying entity, and a revival of the nation's resistance in support of the Palestinian people to reclaim their rights and establish their state, which is on the horizon."

Early Wednesday, Hamas announced the assassination of Haniyeh following a "treacherous Zionist raid" on his residence in Tehran, after his participation in the inauguration of the new Iranian president on Tuesday.

Iranian state television also confirmed Haniyeh's death in Tehran, stating that "an investigation is underway into the assassination and the results will be announced soon."

Subsequently, Hamas announced that official and public funeral ceremonies will be held for Haniyeh in Tehran on Thursday, before his body is transported to Doha for funeral prayers and burial on Friday.

The assassination of Haniyeh in the Iranian capital sparked widespread condemnation from Arab and international countries, amid warnings of escalation in the Middle East.

Since Hamas' founding in 1987 to resist the occupation, Israel has assassinated several of its prominent leaders, including Sheikh Ahmed Yassin (founder), Abdel Aziz Rantisi, Saleh al-Arouri, Ahmed al-Jabari, and Salah Shehadeh.

The assassination of Haniyeh comes at a time when Israel, with American support, is waging a war on the Gaza Strip since October 7, resulting in over 130,000 Palestinian casualties, most of them children and women, and over 10,000 missing.
