The United Nations has reported that over 75,000 people have been displaced in Yemen since the beginning of 2024, driven by escalating conflict between the internationally recognized government and Houthi rebels, as well as severe weather conditions.

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Yemen released the report on its X account, stating, "The escalation of conflict (between the legitimate government and the Houthi group) and severe weather conditions have led to the displacement of over 75,000 people in Yemen since the beginning of this year."

In April, UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg warned of "grave consequences for Yemen and the region" if the escalation of hostilities continued, highlighting the escalating conflict in multiple fronts across the country.

The UNFPA emphasized that its rapid response mechanism in Yemen, led by the fund, has provided emergency relief to 96% of those displaced in 18 affected governorates.

In recent weeks, several regions in Yemen have experienced severe floods, resulting in fatalities and significant damage to the property of thousands of families.

The UNFPA also highlighted its goal of raising $70 million in 2024 to maintain its vital support and services for women and girls.

Yemen's fragile infrastructure has exacerbated the impact of the floods, adding to the suffering of a population already struggling with the fragility of basic services due to the ongoing war between government forces and Houthi rebels, who have controlled several provinces and cities, including Sana'a, since September 2014.
