The National Center for Meteorology and Early Warning issued a warning on Saturday, August 3rd, 2024, for citizens in 10 Yemeni governorates, predicting heavy rains in the coming hours. The center urged residents to exercise caution and avoid low-lying areas and riverbeds.
In its daily bulletin, seen by "Barran Press," the center forecast heavy thunderstorms accompanied by strong downdrafts and hail in the governorates of Saada, Hajjah, Al-Mahwit, Al-Hudaydah, Raymah, Dhamar, Ibb, Taiz, Al-Dhale'e, and parts of Sana'a and Tihama Plain.
The bulletin also indicated the possibility of thunderstorms of varying intensity in parts of the governorates of Amran, Al-Bayda, western Al-Jawf and Marib, the highlands of Lahj, Abyan, Shabwah, Hadhramaut, Mahrah, and parts of the southern coast.
The center reported that rainfall measured over the past 24 hours at some weather stations was as follows: Al-Hudaydah: 52.2 mm, Ibb: 21.5 mm, Al-Dhale'e: 17.7 mm, Saada: 15.4 mm, Al-Mahwit: 10.5 mm, Taiz: 9.4 mm, and Hajjah: 6.8 mm.
Thunderstorms ranging from moderate to heavy fell within and outside the range of weather stations in parts of the western highlands, Tihama Plain, western and southern coasts, and parts of the highlands of Abyan, Shabwah, Hadhramaut, and Mahrah, according to the center.
The Meteorology and Early Warning Center warned drivers of reduced visibility due to rainfall, low-lying clouds, fog, or mist on mountain roads, and the possibility of rockfalls.
The center appealed to relevant government agencies to take necessary measures to protect lives and property and to follow its bulletins and reports.
