A Houthi leader, designated as a terrorist by international organizations, has been accused of kidnapping a civilian auto mechanic in Sana'a, Yemen, over a financial dispute, according to multiple sources.
On Saturday, August 3, 2024, sources reported that Mohsen Shamaa, a prominent Houthi leader, along with his brother Saleh Shamaa and several Houthi fighters, abducted Bakil Nasser Ahmed Abu Doma from Mus'ab Roundabout in Sana'a. Abu Doma was then transported to a private prison belonging to Mohsen Shamaa in the Matma district of Jawf Governorate in northeastern Yemen.
Abu Doma, a resident of Al-Qafla district in Amran Governorate, worked as an auto mechanic in a workshop in Sana'a. The sources revealed that a financial dispute arose between Abu Doma and a relative of the Houthi leader Shamaa over an amount of 15,000 Saudi Riyals.
The sources emphasized that the case is still pending in the prosecution, and no court ruling has been issued. Despite this, the Houthi supervisor Abu Ali Shamaa and his brother Saleh Shamaa, accompanied by Houthi fighters, proceeded to abduct Abu Doma.
This incident highlights the ongoing lawlessness and abuse of power by Houthi leaders in areas under their control. The kidnapping of a civilian over a financial dispute, while legal proceedings are still underway, demonstrates a blatant disregard for the rule of law and basic human rights.
