Taiz Governorate, located in southwestern Yemen, celebrated the graduation of 721 Quran memorizers on Sunday, August 4, 2024. The graduating class was named after martyr Ismail Haniyeh, the former head of Hamas' political bureau, who was assassinated in Tehran shortly after attending the inauguration of Iran's new president, Ebrahim Raisi.

The ceremony, held at Taiz University's grounds under the patronage of local authorities, saw the participation of 721 Quran memorizers, including 119 certified in various Quranic readings, according to Naser Abdulghani Mathar, a member of the administrative board of the Mu'adh Al-Alami Association.

Mathar emphasized that the ceremony coincides with the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip in Palestine. He highlighted the bravery of Gaza's people in defending their holy sites, sacrificing their youth and leaders, including the martyr Ismail Haniyeh, who gave his life for the sake of Al-Aqsa Mosque. The Mu'adh Al-Alami Association is honored to name this graduating class after him.

According to the association, the students spent two to three years memorizing the Quran, becoming part of the 16th graduating class from the association's centers in the governorate.

Yemeni activists and journalists, including photographers, widely shared photos and videos of the ceremony, which included solidarity events with the people of the Gaza Strip, who have been enduring an unjust war waged by the Israeli entity for the tenth consecutive month.

The Mu'adh Al-Alami Association is one of the most prominent Quranic associations in Yemen, managing 39 Quran memorization centers that currently educate 8,123 students in 541 Quranic circles.

The association has successfully graduated 4,723 Quran memorizers to date, along with 502 certified in Quranic readings and narrations, and 160 scholars and preachers from its Islamic sciences centers.
