Yemen's internationally recognized Defense Minister, Lieutenant General Mohsen al-Da'ari, on Sunday, August 4, 2024, commended Taiz Governorate's "pivotal role and the strength of its fronts" in confronting the Houthi militia, internationally recognized as a terrorist group and backed by Iran.
The remarks came during a meeting in Aden, the temporary capital, with Taiz Governor Nabil Shamsan, Taiz Axis Chief of Staff Major General Abdulaziz al-Majidi, and representatives of families of martyrs and wounded soldiers. The meeting focused on discussing the situation of the axis and its martyrs and wounded soldiers.
According to the official Yemeni News Agency (Saba), al-Da'ari expressed appreciation for the "enormous sacrifices and legendary resilience" demonstrated by the governorate during the years of war.
He emphasized the "priority of the martyrs and wounded soldiers file," highlighting the "commitment of the Ministry of Defense leadership to treat and care for the wounded and to take care of the families of the martyrs of the armed forces." He considered this a "national duty and a tribute to their heroism and sacrifices in defending the homeland and its dignity," according to the agency.
The Defense Minister also noted the "active role of the local authority and its support for the military units and security forces to enhance the security and stability of the governorate."
In turn, the Governor of Taiz "expressed appreciation for the attention of the Ministry of Defense leadership to the governorate and its military axis, and for giving priority to the martyrs and wounded soldiers file," according to Saba.
On Thursday, August 1, 2024, Yemen's internationally recognized Prime Minister, Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, affirmed the "government's commitment to treating the wounded and caring for the families of the martyrs," directing the allocation of a land plot for the families of martyrs in Taiz.
Bin Mubarak, during a meeting with representatives of the wounded and families of martyrs from Taiz, considered this a "responsibility, a national and moral duty towards them, and a tribute and appreciation for their sacrifices, which will not go in vain and will remain a source of pride and honor for all citizens of the nation."
Bin Mubarak directed the Land and Urban Planning Authority to allocate a land plot for the families of martyrs in Taiz as a first step, emphasizing that "the state and the government will not neglect their wounded, nor will they forget the families of their martyrs who carried their heads in their hands while defending the homeland against the Houthi sectarian and racist coup project."
Wounded soldiers, particularly in Taiz and Marib governorates, complain of government neglect and shortcomings in their treatment, especially for cases requiring treatment abroad.
At the beginning of July, wounded soldiers from the army and resistance forces in Taiz held a protest in Cairo, Egypt, denouncing neglect and demanding swift action to address their situation and the payment of their overdue allowances for three months.
They expressed concerns that neglect and shortcomings would negatively impact the morale of individuals on the front lines, stressing the need to implement presidential directives regarding the follow-up of the wounded soldiers' file and to provide them with urgent necessities on a timely basis.
