Dr. Ali Al-Abab, Deputy Minister of Education in the internationally recognized Yemeni government, stated on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, that the "focus on profit and investment returns by private schools has damaged the educational process and affected the quality of education outputs."

This statement was made during a comprehensive meeting held in preparation for the new academic year, attended by leaders of the Education Office in Marib Governorate, directors of private schools, and the acting Director General of the city district, Mohammed Al-Harazi, according to the official Yemeni News Agency (Saba).

During the meeting, Al-Abab emphasized the "need for private schools to adhere to the conditions, standards, and specifications approved by the Ministry" to "elevate the educational process and eliminate existing discrepancies," which he claimed have "impacted the quality of its outputs."

In this regard, he instructed the leaders of the Education Office in the governorate and districts to intensify supervision, guidance, and evaluation of private schools and their performance, according to the agency.

He also directed them to monitor the extent to which these schools implement the requirements, specifications, and standards approved by the Ministry for granting them operating licenses, and to follow up on their adherence to implementing circulars, directives, and decisions issued by the Ministry related to organizing and managing the educational process.

Al-Abab stressed that the new academic year should mark the beginning of "correcting discrepancies and elevating the educational process and its outputs, particularly in private schools," noting that this "will ensure high-quality graduates capable of pursuing university education and continuing postgraduate studies."

According to the agency, the meeting focused on discussing priorities for improving the educational environment and implementing methodological foundations to enhance the education system and refine its outputs.
