HODEIDAH, August 7, 2024 - Heavy rains and devastating floods have ravaged the Hodeidah governorate in western Yemen, leaving behind a trail of human and material devastation, according to local sources.

On Tuesday evening, torrential downpours triggered flash floods that swept through the region, displacing families and claiming lives. Sources report dozens of missing, including children, women, and elderly individuals, who were swept away by the floodwaters in the "Al-Ruqood" area of Zubaid district, "Al-Zein" village in Qanaus district, and "Al-Lawiya" village in Ad-Durayhimi district.

The floods also destroyed numerous homes, including one that collapsed on a family, killing the parents and two women. The incident occurred in the "Al-Sahl" village in Ad-Durayhimi district.

Despite the widespread destruction, local sources report a complete absence of response from the Houthi authorities, who control the governorate. The Houthis, designated as a terrorist organization by several countries, have yet to provide any assistance to the affected communities.

"Barran Press" has obtained images of the bodies of children and men swept away by the floods, indicating that the casualty count remains unknown and the number of missing could be significant.

As of 4:00 PM local time, no official figures have been released regarding the number of casualties or the extent of the material damage caused by the floods. This lack of information could be attributed to the limited media coverage of the disaster in Hodeidah.

"Barran Press" has also obtained footage showcasing the scale of the damage inflicted by the floods on homes, livestock, and poultry in Hodeidah.
