The Houthi group, designated as a terrorist organization by several countries, failed to launch a ballistic missile from Raymah province in western Yemen on Friday evening, local sources reported on Saturday, August 10, 2024.

Sources told Barran Press that the Iran-backed group had transported a ballistic missile from Hodeidah province to a valley in the "Ja'fariyah" district, setting up a launch site in "Wadi al-Laym."

The Houthis attempted to launch the missile towards the Red Sea, but it fell short and landed in an empty area, causing no casualties.

This incident comes days after the launch of ballistic missiles against maritime navigation from the city of Mahwit. The Houthis have been accused of using civilian sites as launching platforms for missiles targeting ships in the Red Sea, posing a threat to international navigation.

Since November 2023, the Houthis have been carrying out missile and drone attacks against commercial cargo ships in the Red Sea, Arabian Sea, and Gulf of Aden. These attacks have led to increased maritime insurance costs and forced many international shipping companies to choose the much longer route around the southern tip of Africa.

To deter the Houthis, the US-led "Operation Sentinel" coalition, which includes Britain as a major participant, began airstrikes on Houthi positions in Yemen in January 2024. The Houthis have expanded their operations to target vessels linked to Washington and London.
