Sana'a, Yemen: A court affiliated with the Houthi group, designated as a terrorist organization by several countries, has sentenced a community activist to death by stoning for committing "adultery and murder."
According to a document published by lawyer Wudha'h Qatish, seen by "Barran Press," the Bani Bahlol and Bilad Al-Rus court in Sana'a province sentenced the defendant, "Ghalib Ali Ahmed Al-Qadi," to stoning for a number of crimes, including "adultery" and forging marriage contracts attributed to him.
Al-Qadi was also convicted of "contributing to the murder of a woman and her unborn child," based on evidence cited by the court.
Previously, Yemenis had circulated video clips showing Al-Qadi exploiting the circumstances of several women, taking advantage of their need for humanitarian assistance, and marrying them, despite some of the women being underage.
The sentence has sparked outrage among human rights groups, who condemn it as a violation of basic human rights and a blatant disregard for due process. They call for the immediate release of Al-Qadi and for the Houthi authorities to uphold international standards of justice.
