Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council President Rashad Al-Alimi emphasized the importance of unity and focus on development during a recent visit to Hadhramaut Governorate, a key oil-producing region in southeastern Yemen.

Al-Alimi, according to the official Yemeni news agency Saba, received a briefing on the progress of service projects and plans to alleviate the suffering of citizens, particularly in the sectors of energy, education, and water. The briefing was delivered by Hadhramaut Governor Mabkhout Mubarak bin Maadi during a phone call.

Al-Alimi commended the efforts of the local authorities, political components, social figures, members of the House of Representatives and the Shura Council, religious scholars, youth, women, and armed forces personnel in fostering unity and focusing on the development of Hadhramaut. He also stressed the importance of their participation in local and national decision-making.

The Presidential Leadership Council reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the local authorities in meeting the service demands of Hadhramaut's citizens and political and social components within a broader plan to address the aspirations of people in liberated governorates.

Al-Alimi highlighted the need to empower residents of liberated governorates to manage their local affairs, improve access to basic services, and secure decent livelihoods, which have been severely impacted by the war waged by the Houthi militia, internationally designated as a terrorist group and supported by Iran.

On August 4, Al-Alimi concluded a multi-day visit to Mukalla, the capital of Hadhramaut Governorate. Before departing, he announced the commencement of procedures for establishing two power plants in Hadhramaut with a capacity of 100 megawatts.

The project, according to Saba, will be jointly funded by the government and the local authorities. It includes the construction of one power plant in Coastal Hadhramaut and another in Wadi Hadhramaut, each with a capacity of 50 megawatts.

Al-Alimi praised the achievements made for the people of Hadhramaut despite the challenging financial circumstances exacerbated by terrorist attacks by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia on oil facilities, cargo ships, and international shipping routes.

He called on the people of Hadhramaut, their political and civil components, and the community to strengthen these achievements through greater cohesion and unity for the benefit and prosperity of the governorate, its stability, and its role as a driver of development and the restoration of state institutions.

In this context, Al-Alimi announced the Presidential Leadership Council's intention to form a committee comprising relevant entities to visit Hadhramaut and assess its service and development priorities, working to fulfill the aspirations of its people in various fields.

On July 27, Al-Alimi, accompanied by Presidential Leadership Council members Abdullah Al-Alimi and Othman Majli, arrived in Hadhramaut, the oil-rich governorate in southeastern Yemen, for his second visit since the Council assumed power in April 2022.

Al-Alimi's visit comes at a time when Hadhramaut faces intertwined financial and developmental challenges stemming from Houthi attacks on oil facilities, export ports, cargo ships, and international shipping routes.

Concurrently with the visit, the governorate witnessed several events and protests by political and social components demanding that the internationally recognized Yemeni government address the rights of the governorate's residents in terms of services and their share of oil wealth.

On July 31, a meeting of the Hadhramaut Tribal Alliance issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Yemeni government to address its demands for a "genuine and effective partnership" regarding the oil reserves at Dhaba Port and the Masila oil field, threatening to seize control of Dhaba Port.
