Shabwah, Yemen, August 19, 2024 – The Laqmoush tribes in Shabwah Governorate (eastern Yemen) have issued an eight-day ultimatum to the Presidential Leadership Council, the internationally recognized Yemeni government, and the Southern Transitional Council (STC) to reveal the fate of two of their sons who have been forcibly disappeared in Aden, the temporary capital, for eight years.
The ultimatum was announced during a large tribal gathering in the Al-Arm region of Habban District, attended by tribal leaders, figures, and local officials from Shabwah. The meeting focused on the disappearance of Saleh and Mohammed, sons of Sheikh Saeed Saleh Maqdah Al-Qamishi, who have been missing since 2016.
In a statement released from the meeting, seen by "Barran Press", the tribes declared their full solidarity with the Al-Ja'adane tribe in the case of Brigadier General Ali Ashal, who is also being held captive in Aden. The statement condemned all forms of illegal arrests.
The Laqmoush tribes demanded that the Presidential Leadership Council, the government, the STC, and all security agencies in Aden disclose the whereabouts of their sons, who were forcibly disappeared without legal justification under mysterious circumstances for eight years. They called for their immediate and unconditional release and for a clear and transparent explanation of their fate or location.
The tribes set an eight-day deadline from the date of the statement for the aforementioned authorities to respond to their demands and reveal the fate of their sons.
While emphasizing their commitment to protecting the gains of the nation and its people, as well as public and private property, the attendees agreed to form committees to handle the matter and prepare for escalating measures if their demands are not met.
