Yemen is bracing for widespread heavy to very heavy rains, with the initial impacts already felt in parts of Hadhramaut and Mahra governorates in the east, according to numerical weather models and meteorological forecasts.
Weather forecast models seen by "Barran Press" report that the country is expected to be affected by a widespread eastern rain wave, predicted to cover all Yemeni governorates on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 20-21, with rain intensity ranging from heavy to very heavy and moderate.
The European model forecasts very heavy rains, potentially reaching flood levels, in Hadhramaut, Mahra, Abyan, and Shabwah governorates on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, primarily concentrated in the eastern and southern coastal areas.
The same model predicts heavy to moderate rainfall in Ma'rib, Al Jawf, Sana'a, Amran, Dhamar, Al Bayda, Ibb, Al Dhale'e, Lahj, Aden, Taiz, Al Hudaydah, Reimah, Al Mahwit, Hajjah, and Sa'dah on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The American model also forecasts very heavy rains, potentially causing flooding, in Al Hudaydah, Sana'a, Hajjah, Al Mahwit, and Reimah on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. It also predicts heavy rains in Ibb, Al Jawf, Ma'rib, Al Dhale'e, Al Bayda, Hadhramaut, Shabwah, Abyan, Lahj, and Mahra.
Heavy to moderate thundery showers are expected to continue across vast areas of Yemen for the next ten days, extending into late August, according to numerical weather models.
For the third consecutive week, several Yemeni governorates have experienced heavy rains, thunderstorms, and flash floods, resulting in the deaths of dozens and significant damage to public and private property.
