Two members of Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council, Sultan Al-Aradah and Aidarous Al-Zubaidi, met Friday, June 27, to discuss the country's escalating economic crisis. Their talks, held in the Saudi capital, underscored the urgent need for solutions to alleviate the suffering caused by the ongoing conflict with the Houthi group, which is internationally designated as a terrorist organization.
According to the official Yemeni news agency, Saba, Al-Aradah and Al-Zubaidi emphasized the critical need for immediate action to rescue Yemen from its dire economic situation, a direct consequence of the "absurd war ignited by the Houthi group."
The discussion highlighted the "pressing need for concerted efforts to find swift solutions for the economic and living conditions faced by the Yemeni people," deeming it a top priority. This includes addressing the severe depreciation of the national currency and the deterioration of basic services.
The meeting, attended by Mohammed Al-Ghaithi, head of the Consultation and Reconciliation Commission, and Dr. Nasser Al-Khubaji, a member of the commission, also stressed the importance of national unity in confronting current challenges. Chief among these is the threat posed by the Houthi group, which has inflicted immense hardship on Yemenis across the country, even targeting their livelihoods and basic necessities.
Call for International Support
Al-Aradah and Al-Zubaidi expressed confidence in the support of "brothers and friends" to bolster efforts to stabilize Yemen's economic situation. They characterized the current phase as "extremely important and sensitive," particularly in safeguarding achievements made and thwarting the Houthi's dynastic project, which they assert is backed by the Iranian regime.
