A Yemeni man was killed by a lightning strike while on a phone call, bringing the death toll from lightning strikes in Yemen since the beginning of July to 66, according to local sources.
The victim, identified as Adam Al-Zahiri, was struck by lightning while speaking on his mobile phone in the "Mitem" area of the Ba'dan district in Ibb Governorate, eastern Yemen. Al-Zahiri was on his way home from the village of Rabai in the Dabbi district when the incident occurred.
Sources told "Barran Press" that Al-Zahiri was talking to his wife when a thunderstorm hit the area. The call suddenly dropped, and his wife was left with a sense of foreboding when he told her he was in "Mitem" before the call ended.
After Al-Zahiri's delayed return home and the loss of contact, his family began searching for him. They found him dead in the "Mitem" area, having been struck by lightning.
With the arrival of the autumn rainy season, lightning strikes have become increasingly common in Yemen. "Barran Press" has recorded 48 deaths, including women and children, and 18 injuries from lightning strikes in several governorates since the beginning of July. This latest fatality brings the total number of deaths to 49 and injuries to 18.
