The Executive Unit for the Management of IDP Camps in Yemen, a government entity, announced on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, that Qatar Charity has provided emergency aid to hundreds of families affected by floods in Marib Governorate (northeastern Yemen).

A statement released by the unit and seen by "Barran Press" revealed that "on Monday, emergency aid was distributed to 500 families affected by heavy rains in Marib Governorate, with support from Qatar Charity."

The statement added that the aid "included 500 food baskets and 500 shelter kits." Marib Deputy Governor Abdrabbuh Muftah praised Qatar Charity's efforts in alleviating the suffering of families affected by the floods.

He stated that "this intervention is an extension of the various interventions by Qatar Charity in Marib Governorate across several humanitarian and development sectors," according to the statement.

Last week, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre launched the distribution of emergency shelter and food aid to flood and rain victims in Marib, which was recently hit by heavy rains, resulting in significant human and material losses. The aid included food supplies, 400 tents, and 430 shelter kits, benefiting 1,842 families.

Since the beginning of August, heavy rainfall has increased in Yemen, leading to the deaths of dozens and affecting many residents, particularly those living in displacement camps.

On Thursday evening, Lisa Dutton, Director of the Funding and Partnerships Division at the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, announced that the number of flood victims in Yemen since the beginning of the year has risen to 98, in addition to 600 injuries.

Yemen suffers from severe infrastructure weakness, exacerbating the impact of floods and adding to the misery of residents already struggling with fragile essential services due to the repercussions of a civil war that began nearly 10 years ago.
