Marib Governorate in northeastern Yemen is currently experiencing heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds, local sources reported to Barran Press on Tuesday evening, August 20, 2024.

The city of Marib has been experiencing heavy rainfall for the past hour, accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms, according to local sources to "Barran Press", The rainfall has extended to the city's southern and western rural areas and the neighboring Wadi district, home to approximately 200 camps for internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Earlier in the day, Marib city and its suburbs experienced intermittent rainfall of varying intensity, accompanied by moderate winds. Before that, the city, densely populated by residents and IDPs, was hit by a sandstorm, according to other local sources.

On Monday, the meteorological agency predicted the formation of a low-pressure system over large parts of Marib Governorate following heavy thunderstorms.

Based on these predictions, the Marib Civil Defense Police issued a statement warning citizens, particularly those residing in valleys and near flood channels, about the potential dangers posed by the low-pressure system.

The Civil Defense Police urged citizens to immediately evacuate these areas, avoid staying or approaching them, to protect lives and property.
