The Early Warning and Weather Forecasting Center reported on Saturday, August 24, 2024, that heavy thunderstorms and strong winds will continue to affect various regions and governorates across Yemen.

The center's 72-hour warning bulletin, reviewed by "Barran Press," based on satellite imagery, numerical model outputs, upper atmospheric layers, and surface observations, predicted the continuation of heavy thunderstorms, some accompanied by hail and strong winds, in the highlands, slopes, and western coastal plains.

The center indicated that intermittent rainfall, some thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds, will continue in parts of the deserts, highlands, and plateaus of the governorates of Mahra, Hadhramaut, Al-Bayda, Al-Jawf, Marib, and Al-Dhale, in addition to Shabwa, Abyan, Aden, Lahj, and the Bab el-Mandeb region. Strong winds raising sand and dust are also expected in the Socotra Archipelago, southern coasts, and areas within the range of thunderstorms.

The Forecasting Center renewed its warning and advice to citizens and drivers to avoid valleys and flood channels, avoid driving on slippery muddy roads in areas expected to receive rainfall, stay away from power poles, billboards, and trees, and turn off mobile phones during thunderstorms. It also advised caution against strong winds raising sand and dust during thunderstorms and rainfall in areas within the range of thunderstorms.

Yemen has witnessed heavy rains, thunderstorms, and floods since the beginning of the month, resulting in the deaths of dozens and significant material damage to public and private property.
