Yemen's President of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashid al-Alimi, arrived in Taiz Governorate (southwest Yemen) on Tuesday, August 27th, 2024, marking his first visit to the region since assuming the presidency in 2022. He traveled from the temporary capital of Aden.
Barran Press correspondent reported that al-Alimi was accompanied by fellow Presidential Leadership Council members Othman Majli and Abdullah al-Alimi, along with several officials. The visit was met with a massive and enthusiastic public reception.
The visit aims to assess the security, economic, and living conditions in Taiz, which has been under siege and enduring a decade of war. The visit is also expected to include the inauguration and groundbreaking ceremony for a new diesel-powered power plant, funded by the Saudi Program for the Reconstruction and Development of Yemen.
The visit was met with significant public and official enthusiasm. Al-Alimi's motorcade traveled through several main streets in the city, where he greeted citizens who had gathered to welcome him. He waved from his armored vehicle as he entered the city.
Bran Press is publishing exclusive video footage sent by our correspondent in Taiz, capturing the moment President al-Alimi arrived in Taiz City and the grand welcome he received.
This is the first visit by President al-Alimi to Taiz since taking office in April 2022. It is also the first visit by a Yemeni president to Taiz in 15 years.
