Al-Mahwit, Yemen - Three young girls tragically drowned in flash floods in Al-Mahwit Governorate (northwestern Yemen) on Thursday, August 29, 2024, according to local sources. The incident occurred amidst ongoing rock slides triggered by heavy rains that battered the governorate on Tuesday evening.
The sources, speaking to "Barran Press," identified the victims as Delal Raed Saleh Hizam Al-Jaberi (11 years old), Ramouz Sultan Ahmed Hizam Al-Jaberi (8 years old), and Raghad Khaled Ahmed Al-Sabak (9 years old). They perished after being swept away by floodwaters in a pool near "Beit Al-Jaberi" village in Bani Al-Badi, Al-Rajm District.
The heavy rains that lashed Al-Mahwit on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, have resulted in the deaths of approximately 43 people, the collapse of 37 homes, 7 dams, and around 15 water tanks. The most severe damage was concentrated in the Al-Qibla and Hamdan districts of Malhan, according to "Barran Press" sources.
