Heavy rains and flash floods have claimed the lives of 66 people in the Yemeni provinces of Hajjah (northwest) and Dhamar (central) over the past few days, according to local sources.

The Houthi-controlled version of the Yemeni news agency Saba reported that 39 people died and 40 others were injured due to floods, landslides, and lightning strikes in Hajjah between August 5th and 30th.

In Dhamar, local sources reported 27 deaths and eight injuries from the heavy rains and floods that hit the province over the past two days. Two people remain missing.

The floods also caused the complete or partial destruction of 23 homes, and washed away numerous cars and motorcycles, according to the same sources.

For weeks, most Yemeni provinces have been experiencing heavy and continuous rainfall, causing significant damage to public and private property. Several historical castles and buildings have been affected in various provinces. Activists in areas controlled by the Iranian-backed Houthi group have accused them of neglecting the magnitude of the disaster and failing to respond to residents' pleas for help.
