The Deputy Minister of Education in the internationally recognized government, Ali Al-Abbab, has outlined the challenges facing the education sector in Yemen, particularly public education.
Al-Abbab made the remarks during the opening of a scientific symposium titled "Towards Improving Public Education Outcomes in Yemen: Marib-Jawf as a Model," held at the Regional University of Saba in Marib Governorate (northeastern Yemen).
He stated that public education has "been subjected to and continues to face systematic destruction by the Houthi group, designated as a terrorist organization by several countries." He accused the group of attempting to impose their sectarian cultural and educational agenda, "ignoring society and turning generations into ticking time bombs for war."
The Deputy Minister pointed out that "the deteriorating economic, living, and humanitarian conditions have had a negative impact on public education, leading to an increase in student dropouts and teacher absenteeism."
During the two-day symposium, organized by the "Idea" educational foundation, Al-Abbab emphasized the importance of developing education to build sustainable development and societal progress. He stressed the need to create generations armed with knowledge and capable of innovation and turning knowledge into practical development projects across various fields.
