The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced early Saturday, September 7, 2024, the destruction of a drone and a support vehicle belonging to the Houthi group, designated as a terrorist organization by the international community, within the past 24 hours.

A CENTCOM statement, obtained by "Barran Press," read: "Over the past 24 hours, US Central Command forces successfully destroyed a drone and one support vehicle in an area under the control of the Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen."

The statement added, "These systems were determined to pose an imminent threat to US forces, coalition forces, and commercial vessels in the region." It highlighted that these actions are taken "to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer and more secure."

Since last November, the internationally designated terrorist group, the Houthis, have continued their attacks using missiles and drones against commercial cargo ships in the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea, and the Gulf of Aden.

These attacks have led to increased maritime insurance costs and prompted many international shipping companies to opt for the much longer route around the southern tip of the African continent.

To deter the Houthis and protect maritime navigation, the United States formed a multinational coalition in December 2023. US forces have been carrying out strikes against Houthi military targets on an intermittent basis.
