On August 9, 2024, Dr. Abd Rabbu Miftah, the Deputy Governor of Marib in southeastern Yemen, instructed the Executive Unit for Displaced Persons to provide shelter and food for artist Mohammed Al-Khodhami, who recently revealed that he and his family are facing dire conditions.
According to sources in the province who spoke to "Barran Press," this exceptional directive from Miftah involves collaboration with relevant organizations to ensure that Al-Khodhami receives the necessary assistance.
In a related move, the Deputy Governor ordered the investigation of the camp manager where Al-Khodhami resides, as well as relief officials, local leaders, and representatives from organizations involved in aid efforts.
Additionally, Miftah directed the Health and Population Office in the province to transfer Al-Khodhami to a hospital and provide him with comprehensive medical care.
On August 8, Al-Khodhami shocked his followers by disclosing the hardships he faces in Marib, stating that he is "suffering from hunger and illness." He wrote in a post: "Anyone who has a grievance against me, please forgive me. I swear I am enduring the agonies of death from hunger and illness. I cry as I see my children without food; this may be my last post."
His distressing words prompted outrage among activists, who deemed his situation a humanitarian crisis that necessitated urgent intervention to save him and his family from starvation.
In response, several journalists and activists visited Al-Khodhami at his home in "Konteera," highlighting the challenges he faces alongside his two children, who have been unable to attend school due to financial constraints.
Many have shared Al-Khodhami's artistic contributions over the years, which supported the Yemeni army and resistance in their fight against the Houthi movement, recognized internationally as a terrorist group. Activists are now calling for justice and support to help Al-Khodhami continue his artistic and activist journey.
