Yemeni activist Radhya Al-Mutawakel has accused the Houthi group of preventing her and her husband, Rashid Al-Faqihi, from leaving Yemen via Sana'a International Airport.

Al-Mutawakel, a prominent human rights advocate, stated on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, September 14, 2024, that the security and intelligence apparatus at Sana'a Airport had blocked her and Al-Faqihi from boarding a flight for a work trip outside Yemen.

Following the incident, Yemeni activists expressed solidarity with Al-Mutawakel and Al-Faqihi, who head the Mwatana Organization for Human Rights, known for its critical reporting on the Houthi group.

A statement from the activists, seen by "Barran Press," condemned the Houthi security and intelligence apparatus at Sana'a Airport for preventing Al-Faqihi and Al-Mutawakel from traveling for work.

The statement, signed by intellectuals and politicians, reminded the authorities in Sana'a that the right to travel and freedom of movement are guaranteed by the Yemeni constitution. It further stated that the actions of the intelligence apparatus constitute a violation of the constitution and warrant accountability for those responsible.

The statement strongly condemned this unconstitutional action and demanded respect for the Constitution.
