Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a stern warning to the Houthi rebels on Sunday, September 15th, 2024, stating they would pay a heavy price for any attack on Israeli territory.
"We are in a multi-front battle against the Iranian axis of evil, which seeks to destroy us," Netanyahu stated at the weekly cabinet meeting, according to Reuters.
He added, "This morning, the Houthis launched a surface-to-surface missile from Yemen towards our territory. They should have known that we will hold them accountable for every attempt to attack us."
Referring to the Israeli airstrikes on Hodeidah port in July, Netanyahu said, "Anyone who needs a reminder should visit Hodeidah port."
"Anyone who attacks us will not escape our punishment. Hamas is already learning this through our decisive operations that will lead to their destruction and the release of all our hostages," he warned.
Earlier on Sunday, the Iranian-backed Houthi group claimed responsibility for launching a ballistic missile that reached central Israel for the first time.
Netanyahu's statement comes amidst heightened tensions in the region, with Israel accusing Iran of supporting the Houthis and other militant groups in the region. The Israeli Prime Minister's threat underscores the escalating conflict and the potential for further escalation.
