The Saudi Program for the Reconstruction and Development of Yemen (SPRY) launched a project on Monday, September 16th, 2024, aimed at enhancing water security in Aden, the temporary capital of Yemen, through the use of renewable energy.
According to a SPRY statement published by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the project will benefit at least 800,000 residents across Aden's districts. It is a joint initiative between SPRY and the Silah Development Foundation.
The project, according to the statement, will increase the sustainable supply of drinking water by utilizing renewable energy sources. It will also improve the efficiency of water resource management in the field.
Furthermore, the project will equip workers with skills in maintaining and utilizing solar energy. It will also contribute to enhancing the capacity of Aden's local water authority to meet the basic water needs of its subscribers, supporting key sectors and services in the governorate.
The project is expected to improve the efficiency of the water production infrastructure, reduce operational costs, lower carbon emissions, and create job opportunities.
The SPRY has been actively involved in delivering sustainable development projects and initiatives across eight crucial sectors in Yemen, including education, healthcare, water, energy, transportation, agriculture and fisheries, capacity building for the Yemeni government, and development programs across the country.
