TAIZ, YEMEN — Ahmed Othman, head of the media department for the Yemeni Islah Party in Taiz, narrowly escaped a Houthi attack on his home Wednesday evening, September 25, 2024, local sources told Bran Press. The attack, which targeted his residence in the Al-Ba’arara area of Al-Muzaffar district, resulted in injuries to a relative who was present at the time.

The injured relative was transported to a hospital for treatment, though details regarding the extent of their injuries remain undisclosed.

Othman, a prominent Islah figure and political writer, is known for his sharp criticism of the Houthi group, their ideology, and their human rights abuses. He has frequently denounced the Houthis' actions and their alleged attempts to impose a system of dominance.

Since 2015, the Houthis have maintained a deadly siege on Taiz, periodically shelling residential areas with rockets and artillery, and employing snipers, resulting in numerous civilian casualties, including women and children. Despite local, regional, and international calls for an end to the siege, the Houthi group, designated a terrorist organization, continues to refuse to lift the blockade, impacting the lives of approximately three million residents.
