On Saturday, September 28, 2024, Marib province in northeastern Yemen hosted a poetry morning titled "Youth of September" to commemorate the 62nd anniversaries of the September 26 and October 14 revolutions. The event showcased various poets who celebrated the spirit of September and its heroes.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism, alongside the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and was attended by Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism Muammar al-Eryani, along with several undersecretaries, local officials, and a host of intellectuals and writers.
In a statement to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), Minister al-Eryani praised the poets for their exceptional contributions, highlighting their ability to distill profound national meanings and concepts into compelling verses. He emphasized that their work embodies the Yemeni people's celebration of the enduring legacy of the September 26 Revolution and documents the struggle against the Houthi militia, deemed a terrorist group backed by Iran.
Al-Eryani reflected on the Yemeni uprising of 1962 against the oppressive imamate regime, where Yemenis raised the banners of dignity and republicanism, advocating for equality and justice. He acknowledged that this monumental achievement transformed Yemen's history and paved the way for a new era characterized by aspirations for a dignified life and a brighter future.
Former Minister of Awqaf Dr. Ahmed Atiyah stressed that the September 26 Revolution restored dignity to Yemenis and established equal citizenship under the law. He argued that life for Yemenis before the revolution lacked meaning, warning that the Houthi project is a destructive one rooted in classism and racial segregation—an ideology that Islam seeks to eradicate. He reaffirmed that the struggle against the militia would persist until Yemenis triumph over the illusions of the hereditary imamate.
Writer and intellectual Jamal Anam highlighted the vital role of poetry and poets in revolutionary movements, noting how words and verses have accompanied the revolutionary and activist spirit from the September Revolution through to the October Revolution and Independence Day. He underscored the importance of national poetry and songs in fostering awareness, enhancing identity, and uniting collective sentiments, igniting the spirit of enthusiasm among the youth who aspire to create a prosperous future.
Several young poets presented their diverse works, expressing the pride and resilience that fill the hearts of revolutionaries committed to liberating Yemen from the tyrannical imamate regime. They reaffirmed the continuity of the revolutionary spirit through both the pen and the sword until the objectives of the September 26 Revolution were fully realized.
