Muhammad Ali Al-Husseini, Secretary-General of the Arab Islamic Council, revealed on Saturday that he had urged Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah to write his will just a week prior to his assassination. This warning came after Al-Husseini learned of specific intelligence being shared with an international entity regarding Nasrallah's whereabouts and movements.

In a recent interview with Al-Arabiya, Al-Husseini discussed the implications of Nasrallah's assassination, stating that the intelligence not only tracked Nasrallah but also included details about other targeted leaders. He asserted that a pattern of future attacks was anticipated.

Al-Husseini noted that Iran recognized it was under threat and felt compelled to sacrifice figures like Nasrallah and Ismail Haniyeh, following the precedent set by Qassem Soleimani, in a bid to maintain its regime.

He emphasized that Iran originally established Hezbollah to serve its interests in the region, but the geopolitical landscape has shifted dramatically, particularly in the Middle East.

During last week’s interview, Al-Husseini urged Nasrallah to prepare for the worst, saying, “Gather your affairs and write your will, for those you allied with today may betray you.”

Al-Husseini clarified that his remarks were not a threat but rather a piece of advice. “If you knew what Iran demanded for your head and what it has communicated about you, the equation would change,” he warned.

In a reflective post on X (formerly Twitter), Al-Husseini reminisced about his early days with Nasrallah, stating, “We started together, liberated the south together, and celebrated victories together.”

However, he lamented their divergence in allegiance, asserting, “I remained loyal to Arab unity and the Arab embrace, while you sought refuge in Iran, offering them absolute loyalty and blind obedience.” He further criticized Hezbollah for being abandoned by its Iranian patrons while he was embraced by Arab allies, who remained faithful to their values.

Al-Husseini expressed regret for not being heeded, saying, “I warned you repeatedly to pay attention, so you wouldn’t later say, ‘If only I had known.’” He cautioned that destruction awaited Nasrallah and the Lebanese people, reiterating his duty to warn him and suggesting that repentance was still possible.

He concluded that Nasrallah’s fate serves as a cautionary tale for anyone who forsakes their homeland and allegiance for the benefit of another nation.

Muhammad Ali Al-Husseini is a Lebanese Islamic scholar and lecturer, currently serving as the Secretary-General of the Arab Islamic Council in Lebanon. He was granted Saudi citizenship by royal decree on November 15, 2021.

On September 28, 2024, Hezbollah announced in a statement the death of its Secretary-General, Hassan Nasrallah, following an Israeli attack on southern Beirut.
