On Sunday, September 29, 2024, Ahmed Awad Bin Mubarak, the internationally recognized Prime Minister of Yemen, visited the Al-Wadee'ah border crossing in Hadramout province. He directed the management of the crossing to prohibit any illegal fees imposed on travelers and to hold accountable anyone involved in such practices.
According to the official Yemeni news agency Saba, Bin Mubarak toured the crossing area, engaging with travelers to gather their feedback on the processing of their travel procedures when arriving from or departing to Saudi Arabia.
During his visit, Bin Mubarak emphasized the need for sustainable measures to prevent congestion among expatriates, pilgrims, and visitors traveling to and from Saudi Arabia. He also instructed for the urgent completion of staff rotations at the crossing as per a Cabinet decision.
The Prime Minister also called for a review of the customs data notebook fees for vehicles entering Yemen over complaints about significant price increases. He assured that the government would coordinate with relevant authorities to address these issues and review the fees imposed on expatriates' vehicles entering the country.
Bin Mubarak listened to the director of the crossing, Amer Al-Saiyari, regarding the corrective actions taken to resolve various problems since the new administration took over. He reaffirmed the commitment to ongoing reforms aimed at alleviating travelers' difficulties and streamlining their processes.
As part of his visit, Bin Mubarak inspected the development and rehabilitation project at the Al-Wadee'ah border crossing, funded by the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen. The project aims to enhance the efficiency and capacity of the crossing for travelers and commercial traffic while improving the overall infrastructure of Yemen's transport sector.
The Prime Minister was briefed on the components of the project, which include the construction of new buildings, rehabilitation of existing structures, road works, and the installation of security gates and monitoring systems, as well as improvements to water and energy resources at the crossing.
Additionally, Bin Mubarak visited the wounded care center in the Al-Wadee'ah area, commending the high morale of the injured and their readiness to sacrifice for the nation. Accompanied by the Chief of General Staff, Major General Sagheer Bin Aziz, and the commander of the Sharurah forces, he assessed the services provided at the center, which supports wounded members of the armed forces and local resistance.
He expressed appreciation for the center's comprehensive medical and rehabilitation services, thanking Saudi Arabia for establishing it and for their ongoing support in various sectors.
Earlier that day, Bin Mubarak also inspected the progress of the second phase of the Al-Abr road expansion and rehabilitation project, funded and executed by the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen. He reviewed the ongoing work on this vital international road, which connects Yemen to Saudi Arabia and benefits millions.
He acknowledged the completion of the first phase, which extends 50 kilometers from Al-Abr junction to Al-Dhubaybi, and expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts in enhancing this critical infrastructure.
