On September 30, 2024, the National Center for Meteorology and Early Warning forecasted scattered thunderstorms across 16 Yemeni provinces over the next 24 hours.
In its daily report, viewed by Bran Press, the center indicated that varying intensities of rain are expected in parts of the highlands and the Tihama plain, specifically in the provinces of Hajjah, Al-Mahwit, Al-Hudaydah, Raymah, western Dhamar, Ibb, Taiz, Lahij, Al-Dhale, and Abyan.
Additionally, the forecast includes scattered thunderstorms in western areas of Saada, Amran, and Sana'a, as well as parts of the coasts and highlands of Al-Mahrah, Hadramout, and Shabwa.
The report noted recent rainfall measurements from various weather stations over the past 24 hours: Al-Hudaydah recorded 16.9 mm at Al-Kudn, Taiz received 1.0 mm at Al-Huban, and Ibb measured 0.2 mm at Badhan. Furthermore, heavy rainfall, some exceeding the capacity of local monitoring stations, has been reported in parts of Abyan, Lahij, Al-Dhale, and Hajjah.
Since early July, large areas of the country have experienced heavy to torrential rains, leading to flooding that has resulted in the deaths of 72 individuals, including women and children, and injuries to 33 others due to lightning strikes in several provinces. The total death toll has now risen to 76, with 34 injured.
