An emergency Arab meeting, chaired by Yemen, commenced on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo. The meeting aims to discuss "Arab solidarity with Lebanon and address the serious repercussions of Israeli aggression" against the country.

The gathering, held at the level of permanent representatives and led by Yemen's acting permanent representative to the Arab League, Ambassador Ali Mousa, focused on providing urgent assistance to the Republic of Lebanon, according to Yemen's official news agency, Saba.

Discussions included the "Israeli military escalation against our brother Lebanon and its humanitarian consequences," as well as ways to assist displaced persons and refugees and deliver urgent medical and food aid to those affected.

The meeting also called for the international community to stand with the Lebanese people and collaborate with international organizations to expedite the delivery of urgent assistance.

Ambassador Ali Mousa reiterated Yemen's steadfast support and solidarity with Lebanon, condemning the ongoing Israeli aggression that has resulted in hundreds of casualties, including women and children, and forced tens of thousands of citizens to flee their homes. He emphasized Yemen's full support for Lebanon in confronting this aggression.

The Yemeni ambassador held Israel accountable for the dangerous escalation, warning of the potential consequences of continued aggression against Lebanon, which could ignite a broader regional conflict and threaten the security and stability of the entire region. He called for the international community to fulfill its responsibilities in stopping this aggression.

He pointed out that Lebanon is facing one of the most critical phases in its history, with approximately one million people displaced due to the destructive war waged by Israel. The ongoing Israeli attacks have led to the displacement of numerous families and exacerbated the humanitarian crisis.

"The brutal Israeli aggression constitutes a blatant violation of international charters and laws, including the United Nations Charter, which prohibits the use of force against the sovereignty of an independent state," he stated, considering this aggression a violation of Lebanon's sovereignty and a continuation of Israel's policy of disregarding international law and UN resolutions concerning the cessation of hostilities and the protection of civilians.

He added that "Israeli aggression poses a serious threat to peace and security in the region, requiring urgent international action to halt the escalation."

The international community was urged to "take tangible steps to put an end to this escalation and ensure accountability for Israel's repeated violations of international law."

Ambassador Mousa also called for support of Lebanon's position in its demands for the international community to achieve sustainable stability in southern Lebanon through the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, aiming to permanently end Israeli land, sea, and air violations of Lebanese territory.

Since September 23, Israel has launched its "most intense and extensive" assault on Lebanon since the onset of hostilities with Hezbollah nearly a year ago, resulting in at least 1,119 deaths, including children and women, 3,040 injuries, and 1.2 million displaced persons, according to Anadolu Agency.
